Nature Reborn

drawing_edited_edited.jpg

Nature Reborn is a project based on the human impact and massive destruction of the  environment and plants. For decades humans have not taken into consideration how much damage we are causing.  Sadly , our bad habits continue to be evident even throughout the current Covid-19 pandemic.  What could have been a wake up call for the world to allow Mother Earth to heal, continues in old habits of recurring damage. As the environment is trying to slowly heal due to a reduction of outdoor human activity, nature is reclaiming its rights both on land and in water yet unfortunately with a small realisation by the human race.

Part of the concept behind the photoshoot shown below was inspired by social media as I discovered a photographer creating a photoshoot in their bath. I particularly liked the concept of an oat milk bath and had already been gathering dead/ dried out plants for sometime. The idea of this photoshoot is to exhibit the connection of humans with nature, living as one. The bath is meant to symbolise the rebirth of humans into understanding the earth's needs. It is a metaphor to show that the pandemic should be a wake up call. A not so gentle reminder to change

our habits, a desperate scream for humanity to reconnect, nurture and protect  the one planet we live on. Plants need us as much as we need them!

This photoshoot was in collaboration with model Lucy Warren. She supported the idea and concept behind it from the start and did not need any persuasion to join the cause. Due to the fact that she is a vegan she requested the milk bath to be of oat milk instead of cows milk and of course I agreed. I purchased two cartons of oat milk and we poured them into the bath. The oat milk gave a more organic green look to the bath which I loved.

I also asked Lucy if she could share her opinion on this project and I was thrilled with her inspiring view below:

"Initially the images appear simply to be about the connection between the body and nature and honoring these organic structures born of the earth. However, the focus of this photo shoot was also the contrast between the living body and the dead plants; it was about disintegration, the dying and the beauty of the imperfect. Personally, modelling for Victoria's photo shoot was so empowering as a celebration of the beauty of the female form and the life force energy that exists within all Mother Earth's creations."

One of my favourite inspirations was derived by an artist called Anissa Kermiche of a vase from a woman's lower half body. I wanted to create a similar pieces out of clay and I became so involved with this project that I made two additional pieces to complete a set of three (in different sizes and similar paint finishes as shown below). I really liked the contrast of these vase sculptures with my hand sculpture. While the first nourishes life, the latter drains it. The idea was explored further by the production of a life-size plant pot of my own lower half body.
